Visioneeer Strobe XP 450 Scanner
I recommend this module of sweeping without qualification. It is easy to employ and fast. I cannot believe that I waited thus wish ardently to buy a module of sweeping for my use of office. I can buy a second for the uses at the house and personnel.


Be very careful
Be VERY careful when purchasing anything from Visioneer. I have owned a visioneer scanner for about 4 years, and when I upgraded my PC to Vista, was shocked to learn that Visioneer considers it "out of production" and therefore no new drivers are available. In short, I now own a boat anchor. If you think you might EVER upgrade your computer, you might be better off purchasing from a company who supports their equipment. By the way, I had to call a 900 number to find out that the product is no longer supported - I actually had to PAY to get ripped off.


Great hardware, horrible support
I used modules of sweeping of PaperPort/Visioneer during nearly one decade, and liked them all. For some reason, although, their code becomes worse and worse and the their "appui" simply does not exist. For some reason, in order to install a new module of sweeping, you must remove all the vestiges (even hidden) of the software and former drivers of module of sweeping. Forget to install TWO modules of sweeping (I flat have Visioneer and a stroboscope XP 450). Is it too much to ask to obtain the support of an article that that cost $650?


EXCELLENT SCANNER
I FIRST STARTED USING VISIONEER PRODUCTS IN 1996. THIS IS A CONTINUATION OF VISIONEER'S SUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS TO PRODUCE LOW COST GOOD LOOKING SCANNERS THAT TAKE UP LITTLE ROOM AND ARE EASY TO USE. THIS MACHINE WORKS WONDERFULLY, AND IS CLEARLY COMPATIBLE WITH ADOBE AND WORD PERFECT. IF YOU ARE USING THIS FOR YOUR LAW PRACTICE SPEND THE EXTRA DOUGH ON THE XP450. THE FEDERAL COURTS ARE GOING PAPERLESS AND THIS IS THE TOOL TO KEEP UP.

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE INSTALLATION CALL THEIR TECH SUPPORT STAFF THEY ARE VERY HELPFUL. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO WAIT 10 MINUTES FOR SOMEONE TO ANSWER BUT THEY WILL GUIDE YOU THRU THE PROCESS. MY PAST PROBLEMS WITH VISIONEER PRODUCTS WAS GETTING THE COMPUTER TO FIND THE SCANNER AND THE FIX INVOLVED THE REMOVAL OF FILES FROM PREVIOUS SCANNERS.


XP 450 Constantly loses Connection
I employ this in a law office/buiness placing with a portable computer of current IBM Windows 2000. The problem is if I do not sweep something during approximately an hour, the module of sweeping loses its connection and you must stop it and to obtain it behind above to sweep. A royal pain in you maintaining what since the button of power is on the back. I called the support of Visioneer and they said "which is the manner that that functions - if you do not employ it it loses connection." I think who am BS. My HP not. If somebody of another A the problem and a difficulty, leave me know. Otherwise, our office just denied to buy 50 more the latter since I was the case of test.


Finally a quiet reliable small footprint scanner
Thia is a great scanner. It is quiet, fast, and the document feeder works flawlessly. Be careful during installation. After installing Paperport, it continues on to install the driver without pause. The last screen tells you to connect the USB cable before selecting the 'finish' button. If you are not reading the screens, you could miss this and have to uninstall and reinstall which is messy. Other than that I highly recomment this. I have gone through 3 HP and one Canon scanner before finding one that fits the bill perfectly.


Excellent workgroup scanner
I've reviewed and used many scanners over the years. Each is inevitably a compromise. However, the Strobe XP450 is by far the best that I've tried so far in its price range. It's fast. relatively resistant to jamming, easy to set up, and has less skewing than most automatic sheet feeders. It's also very compact and reliable. Highly recommended. I use it in a law office setting and it's been one of the major reasons that I have been able to move away from paper based files toward a much more efficient digital law office.
